Anyone But You has been a hit for the romantic comedy genre, and according to star Sydney Sweeney, discussions on a potential sequel have been discussed.
Speaking to GQ UK, Sweeney noted that a sequel for Anyone But You could “maybe” be in the works, although nothing is officially set in stone as of yet.
“We’ve been tossing around a bunch of different ideas,” Sweeney said. “We just want to make sure that whatever we do gives the audience what they want and at the same time is new and exciting for us.”
Who’s involved in Anyone But You?
Anyone But You is directed by Will Gluck from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ilana Wolpert. The filmmaker is best known for his directorial work on romantic comedies Easy A and Friends with Benefits, as well as the Peter Rabbit movies. Joining Sweeney and Powell are Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Dermot Mulroney, Rachel Griffiths, Michelle Hurd, Bryan Brown, Darren Barnet and Hadley Robinson.
“In the film, Bea and Ben look like the perfect couple, but after an amazing first date something happens that turns their fiery hot attraction ice cold – until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia,” reads the synopsis. “So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple.”
The project is executive produced by Sweeney, Natalie Sellers, Alyssa Altman, and Jacqueline Monetta, with Gluck, Joe Roth, and Jeff Kirschenbaum as producers.
