What doe this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap Game of Thrones season 1 episode 5 ‘The Wolf and the Lion’!
Tyrion Lannister and Catelyn Stark
Catelyn takes her newly captured prisoner, Tyrion to the Vale to visit her sister, Lysa Arryn. Along the way they were attacked by some of the hill tribes in the Vale, but managed to fight them off. The group arrived at the Eyrie and Lysa ordered Tyrion thrown into a prison cell until he confessed to his crimes.
Bran Stark
Bran was saddened that his mother was no longer at home, but Maester Luwin was attempting to comfort him with lessons about history. He was not interested until Luwin mentioned archery. Luwin quickly realized that Bran would not be able to shoot a bow normally and he explained how the Dothraki shoot arrows from horseback. Bran agreed to practice this technique if Tyrion’s saddle worked.
House Lannister and Ned Stark
Ned arrived at the tourney grounds and learned from Lord Commander Barristan Selmy that King Robert planned on competing in the tournament later that day. Ned went and talked to Robert about his plan and managed to convince Robert not to compete in the tournament. Later that day, Varys met with Ned and informed him that Robert would die soon, unless Ned saved him from himself. He also told Ned that Jon Arryn was poisoned with the Tears of Lys, because of his investigations. Later, Arya stumbled upon Varys discussing events that will bring the wolf and the lion to each other’s throats soon, with Illyrio Mopatis. Illyrio suggested assassinating Ned to keep war from breaking out too soon, but Varys refuses the idea. Arya escapes from the dungeon and tells Ned about what she heard, but Ned does not believe any of her statements. At a small council meeting, Robert tells Ned that Dany is pregnant with a son and orders Dany, her unborn child, and Viserys assassinated as soon as possible. The next day, Petyr Baelish offers to take Ned to the last place that Jon Arryn went before he died. Ned agrees and is taken to one of Baelish’s brothels, where Ned meets another of Robert’s bastards. He noted that this child also had black hair in direct contrast to the royal children. Ned is suspicious as to why Arryn was visiting Robert’s bastards and Baelish is unaware of the reason. Ned decides to leave the brothel and is intercepted by Jaime Lannister outside. Jaime kills all of the guards that Ned had alongside him and then Ned is stabbed through the leg by one of the other Lannister guards.
