Black Beauty: Mackenzie Foy & Kate Winslet to Star in Movie Adaptation

Mackenzie Foy (The Nutcracker and the Four Realms) and Oscar winner Kate Winslet (The Reader) will be starring in a new Black Beauty reboot, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The film will serve as the latest adaptation of the novel written by Anna Sewell.

Foy, whose credits also include Interstellar, The Conjuring, The Twilight Saga, and The Little Prince, will play a 17-year-old girl whose bond with Black Beauty helps her overcome the death of her parents. Winslet, who has also starred in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Titanic, Steve Jobs, and the upcoming Avatar 2, will voice Black Beauty’s inner thoughts.

Ashley Avis (Adolescence) will direct from the script she adapted. Sewell’s novel told a fictional autobiography of the titular wild horse.

Constantin Film’s Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer will produce alongside executive producer Martin Moskowicz. The project will be introduced by Mister Smith Entertainment to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival next week.

Black Beauty has been adapted numerous times in the past for the small screen and the big screen. The most popular is the 1994 film starring Sean Bean, David Thewlis, Alan Cumming, and directed by Caroline Thompson.
