Preparations are ramping up fast for the upcoming crime thriller Waldo starring Mel Gibson (Blood Father) and Charlie Hunnam (The Lost City of Z) as not but a day after adding another member to its cast, the film has added Clancy Brown (Daredevil, SpongeBob SquarePants) to the roster, according to Deadline.

The film is based on Howard Gould’s novel Last Looks, and will be directed by Brit filmmaker Tim Kirby, who is best known for directing episodes of Veep and the pilot for Fleabag, and will also star Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver) and Dominic Monaghan (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker).
Waldo introduces a new hero in disgraced former LAPD detective Charlie Waldo (Hunnam), currently living the life of a minimalist in the woods. His quiet life comes to a startling halt when he is roped back into working as a private eye to investigate the murder of an eccentric TV star’s wife. Filming is set to commence in the first quarter of 2019.
The project is one of many currently on Gibson’s schedule. Earlier this year news broke that he would star alongside Annabelle Wallis (The Mummy) and Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) in the action-thriller Boss Level; in August the actor committed to the World War II revenge thriller War Pigs with Colin Farrell; and in August he signed on to co-write and direct a remake of The Wild Bunch. Gibson is also developing a Passion of the Christ sequel with Jim Caviezel, and was prepping the WWII drama Destroyer before taking on Wild Bunch.
Gibson was last seen in the biopic The Professor and the Madman in which he stars as Professor James Murray alongside Natalie Dormer (Penny Dreadful: City of Angel)’s Eliza Merrett and Sean Penn (Gangster Squad)’s Dr. William Chester Minor.; and the cop thriller Dragged Across Concrete with Vince Vaughn.
Hunnam was last seen in Netflix’s Triple Frontier alongside Ben Affleck (Justice League) and Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) and recently wrapped filming on The True History of the Kelly Gang. He is currently shooting Jungleland from director Max Winkler (Flower).
Gonzalez starred in Edgar Wright’s fantastic Baby Driver, and will next be seen in Robert Zemeckis’ Welcome’s to Marwen this December. She will also appear in Highway, Alita: Battle Angel, Paradis Hills, Cut Throat City, Bloodshot, and Kung Fury 2.

Monaghan found his breakout role as Meriadoc Brandybuck in Peter Jackson’s acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy and following it up with a lead role on ABC’s hit mystery series Lost, going on to eventually star in the 2009 box office hit X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the short-lived ABC mystery series FlashForward and Netflix’s neo-noire sci-fi film Mute. He can next be seen in the highly-anticipated final installment of the long-running franchise’s primary storyline, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, with his role still being kept under wraps.
After finding early success with supporting roles in the cult classics Highlander and Starship Troopers, Brown would go on to land key roles in the Oscar-nominated Stephen King adaptation The Shawshank Redemption and voice acting roles as Mr. Krabs and various other characters in the acclaimed Nickelodeon animated series SpongeBob SquarePants and its animated films, the third of which is slated to hit theaters on May 22, 2020.
