Evil Dead: Sam Raimi

Sam Raimi Teases a Return to the Evil Dead Franchise

Few franchises are synonymous with horror like Evil Dead. Now, filmmaker Sam Raimi, who launched the franchise with the first Evil Dead film back in 1981, spoke to Bloody Disgusting about returning to the series that helped put him on the map.

“I’d love to make another one. I don’t think TV is in its future but we’re talking about – Bruce [Campbell], Rob [Tapert] and myself – one or two different ways to go for the next movie. We’d like to make another Evil Dead feature and in fact, we’re working on some ideas right now.”

It turns out, Raimi has several ideas for how to approach this possible. One if star Bruce Campbell returns, another if Campbell sits the movie out and Fede Alvarez, who directed the 2013 remake, returns, and a third idea if neither Campbell or Alvarez opt back in. He didn’t detail the third option, but teased “I think you may see some action on the Evil Dead movie in the next six months.

The first Evil Dead movie became a massive cult hit and spawned two blood-drenched sequels, Evil Dead II in 1987, and Army of Darkness in 1993. It went on to spawn video games, stage musicals, a TV series, as well as the remake in 2013.
