Just when you thought it was safe to go back into an elaborately rigged room of killer puzzles. The much-talked-about Saw sequel, which came from a story by Chris Rock, who will co-star with Samuel L. Jackson, is officially in production, as director Darren Bousman teased earlier this week on Instagram.
The photo is captioned simply “And so it begins… #saw,” though the working title appears to be The Organ Donor, though that could just be used to help keep a lid on potential leaks.
While it’s been a minute since the last Saw film hit theaters, Bousman directed Saw II, III, and IV from 2005-2007, so he definitely knows his way around the franchise.

The film will be produced by longtime Saw producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules – who are back once again to shepherd this re-imagining, which will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed three of the most successful films in the Saw franchise. The screenplay is based on a story conceived by Chris Rock and written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg (Jigsaw). The film will be executive produced by Chris Rock, long-time Saw executive producer Daniel Heffner and the original creators of Saw, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell.

Saw 9 film will be released on October 23, 2020.
