Based on literary icon William Shakespeare’s plays Henry IV Part 1, Henry Part 2, and Henry V, The King is a modern-day Shakespearean adaptation from the screenwriting duo Michod and Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton, who’ve worked together on Animal Kingdom. It will follow the story of Hal, a wayward prince, who ascends to the English throne upon his father’s death, and must navigate the palace snake pit, and inherited war and chaos.

The King is being produced by Michod, Edgerton, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Brad Pitt, and Liz Watts. It is a production between Netflix and Plan B Entertainment along with Blue-Tongue Films and Porchlight Films.
Henry V was one of the most renowned kings in English history (1387-1422) and led two successful invasions of France, including his victory at the 1415 Battle of Agincourt and eventually “securing full control of the French throne.”
The film had its world premiere at the 2019 Venice Film Festival last September.
