According to Deadline, NBC has given a pilot commitment to Emmy winner Ben Stiller‘s forthcoming American remake of Channel 4’s British comedy series Home, which will center on a couple who takes in a Syrian refugee.
The series adaptation will be directed and executive produced by Stiller, who had also recently signed on to direct another series titled Severance for Apple TV+. The two shows will be his latest TV projects since helming Showtime’s critically-acclaimed miniseries Escape at Dannemora.

Home will follow the story of a new couple, Mark and Melanie, who go on a long weekend trip to a cabin in the woods with Melanie’s son Jonah. Their plan to come back with a tan and some happy memories is interrupted when they return with Jay, a Syrian refugee who moves in with them and the cobbled-together family soon discovers what home really means.
The series will be written by Stacy Traub (Black-ish), who will also serve as an executive producer along with original series creator Rufus Jones and original producer Jantaculum’s Adam Tandy. It will be executive produced by Stiller, Nicky Weinstock, Alan Marke, 3 Arts Entertainment’s Tom Lassally and BBC Studios’ Angie Stephenson. Home is a co-production by Lionsgate Television and BBC Studios in partnership with 3 Arts Entertainment and Stiller’s Red Hour Films.
