The book, fully titled Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre, is the author’s take on the Bigfoot folktale and is told both as a journal and scientific investigation. The book was released in stores on Tuesday through the Del Rey imprint of Penguin Random House. You can pick up your copy of the novel here!

The story is set in a model eco-community town in the shadow of Mt. Rainier that, in the aftermath of a volcanic eruption, is rampaged by ferocious beasts known as the Sasquatch. The tale is told through the lens of town resident Kate Holland. It is described as “part survival narrative, part bloody horror tale, part scientific journey into the boundaries between truth and fiction.”

Brooks and Legendary had previously been developing the concept for the story, but the author decided to pen the book first.

Besides writing World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War (which was later adapted into a movie starring Brad Pitt in 2013), Brooks has also written Minecraft: The Island as well as graphic novels like G.I. Joe: Hearts and Minds and The Harlem Hellfighters.
