Wonder Woman 1984 continues to struggle at the box office where it raked in just $3M domestically (down -45% from last weekend) at 2,218 theaters. All told, the film has amassed $32.6M, which is considerably less than Tenet’s $58M domestic haul and quite disappointing even amidst the pandemic.

Clearly, Americans had other things on their minds this week — football playoffs, basketball and the, uh, stuff at the capital — and seeing the Patty Jenkins sequel in theaters wasn’t among them.
As if that weren’t enough, Deadline reports that some movie theaters have decided to shut down and forego their payment to Warner Bros. on WW1984. Yikes. The trade also notes that WB has yet to release any HBO Max numbers, perhaps because the film hasn’t played out as well as expected.
Worldwide, WW1984 has tallied a ho hum $131.4M (compared to Tenet’s $362.9M), though, to be fair, a majority of theaters in Europe remain closed or are operating in limited capacity.
It’s not all dire news. Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Croods: A New Age continues to perform well. The animated sequel collected another $1.8M over the weekend for a $36.8M total and $127.8M worldwide.
Meanwhile, the Tom Hanks drama News of the World collected $1.24M in its third weekend for a $7.1M total, while Sony/Screen Gems’ Monster Hunter brought in $1.1M for a 4-week $7.8M total.
