On the heels of casting One Night in Miami star Kingsley Ben-Adir as the series’ villain and just in time for production to get underway, Marvel has entered talks with Oscar and Golden Globe winner Olivia Colman (The Crown) to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ series Secret Invasion, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

First published in June 2008 and spanning eight issues penned by Brian Michael Bendis, penciled by Leinil Francis Yu, inked by Mark Morales and colored by Laura Martin, the crossover series revealed a subversive, long-term invasion of Earth by the Skrulls, a group of alien shapeshifters who have secretly replaced many superheroes in the Marvel Universe with impostors over a period of years, prior to the over invasion.

The Disney+ series, which was first announced in September and confirmed to be an adaptation of the storyline in December, will see Samuel L. Jackson (The Hateful Eight) reprising his role of former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury alongside Ben Mendelsohn (The Outsider) as pseudo-leader of the Skrulls, Talos, reprising his role from Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s post-credits scene, in which he was revealed to be impersonating Fury throughout the film.

Secret Invasion marks the latest series to come from the MCU on Disney+, with WandaVision seeing rave success as well as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which is set to conclude on Friday and will be followed by the Tom Hiddleston-led Loki in June. Other projects currently in development at the streaming platform include the animated What If?, the first season of which is slated for a mid-2021 debut, Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel set for later this year, Moon Knight and She-Hulk set for 2022 and Amor Wars and Ironheart, the former of which will reportedly begin shooting this month.
