The new trailer doesn’t hint at too much, showcasing just a handful of scenes cut together to the film’s soundtrack. However, in the end, it does tease a confrontation between the protagonist Conan and Rei Furuya.

The new film will primarily focus on the police academy characters of the series, including Rei Furuya, Jinpei Matsuda, Wataru Date, Kenji Hagiwara, and Hiromitsu Morofushi. The film will premiere on April 15, 2022, in Japan, and Susumu Mitsunaka (Haikyu!) is directing at TMS Entertainment. Meanwhile, Takahiro Okura (Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire) will be writing the script.
The new film ties in nicely with where the Detective Conan series is right now. Detective Conan: Police Academy Arc Wild Police Story is set to premiere on December 4. The anime is based on a manga spin-off of the same name that first debuted in October 2019.

Detective Conan has had plenty of other announcements lately, as back in October two new anime adaptions of other spin-offs were announced. The first series is The Culprit Hanzawa, which is a gag manga focused on the black-silhouetted “criminal” used in the franchise. The second is Zero’s Tea Time, which focuses on the daily life of the renowned triple-agent Tooru Amuro.
