Madame Web: Sydney Sweeney Breaks Silence on Her Marvel Casting

It has been over a month since the confirmation that Sydney Sweeney has been tapped to join the cast of Sony Pictures’ next Marvel film Madame Web, and now the Euphoria star has finally opened up about her major casting. Speaking with Variety, Sweeney revealed that she has been buying a lot of comic books as preparation for her undisclosed role.

“I’ve been ordering a bunch of comic books,” Sweeney revealed “There’s a lot to learn. I’ve always been a really big fan of all of the Marvel and Sony Universe movies. I’ve grown up watching them all and I’ve been engulfed in the entire world my entire life, so being able to be a part of that is such an incredible, incredible thing.”

Sweeney also teased that her mysterious character will be something different from the roles she has played before, which is what got her to sign onto the project.

“I like to try and find characters that are challenging for me in multiple different ways, and are completely different from one another,” Sweeney stated. “I want to continue to shock people with the characters that I play when they don’t expect that I would choose that next.”

Sony’s Madame Web will be led by Dakota Johnson as the titular Spider-Man character. Created by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr. in 1980, Madame Web is a blind psychic that has become a major player in the world of Spider-Man due to her ties to “The Great Web,” a multiversal construct that ties all “Spider” characters together across the multiverse.
