Supermassive Games is still moving forward with its annual Dark Pictures entry even after just releasing its last title, The Quarry. The Devil in Me was first teased in 2021âs House of Ashes and now the team has released a story trailer for the upcoming horror game featuring a better look at its characters, setting, and collectorâs edition. Supermassive also reiterated that it is set to release this fall on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The trailer showcases the hotel it takes place in, which is owned by a rich recluse thatâs obsessed with H.H. Holmes. Holmes was a real-life person convicted of murder and is most known for his âmurder castle,â an infamous hotel that garnered sensationalized coverage speaking to its maze-like layout and traps.
These extreme descriptions of the hotel have often been debunked, but have lived on in myths, rumors, and, in this case, The Devil in Me, as it seems to be taking a lot of those inspirations to heart. The hotel in the game is similar to the lore surrounding Holmesâ hotel, giving the game an atmosphere similar to the Saw films as the protagonists come across a series of gruesome traps. The title is also a reference to Holmes, as he claimed he was possessed by Satan and reportedly said, âI was born with the devil in me.â
It also gives a better look at Jessie Buckleyâs character Kate Wilder as well as some of the other characters, a few of which are returning from past Dark Pictures games. It appears as though Man of Medanâs Ayisha Issa is back, but Supermassive has not confirmed who the rest of the cast will be. These protagonists are documentary film makers and receive a invite to the replica of Holmesâ âMurder Castleâ and aim to boost their ârock-bottom viewing figuresâ with a juicy story based on the mysterious building. And like the other Supermassive horror games, they can all live or die based on the playerâs decisions.
The trailer also unveiled its collectorâs edition, which is only available on Bandai Namcoâs store. It will cost $89.99 and come with:
- A copy of the game
- A collectorâs box
- An exclusive business card
- An exclusive map of the gameâs hotel
- An exclusive postcard and envelope
- An animatronic bust
- Early access to the Curatorâs Cut DLC (that will be free for everyone a few months later)

Little Hope and House of Ashes, the two most recent Dark Pictures games, also had special editions, showing that The Devil in Me is just continuing the trend. The Curatorâs Cut DLC is also something consistent in all the Dark Pictures titles, which shows the story from a different characterâs point of view.
