Martin Lawrence: ‘At Least One More’ Bad Boys Could Happen With Will Smith

In an interview with Ebony Magazine, Martin Lawrence discussed the possibility of further Bad Boys films, and how Will Smith’s Oscar slap hasn’t changed the future of the series.

When asked about whether Bad Boys 4 could still happen after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards, Lawrence said, “We got one more at least.” Smith has been dropped from various projects as a result of the slap and banned from the Academy for 10 years. This comes after Variety confirmed a fourth Bad Boys film back in 2020, which would be written by Chris Bremner and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

“It was big. For us to come together and prove that we can deliver, and we can pull people into the box office—that two Black stars, two sitcom stars, could make money at the box office,” Lawrence commented on the success of the original Bad Boys. “I didn’t go to college, so I felt TV was my college years. I felt with movies, I had graduated; it was just different.”

The most recent entry in the series, Bad Boys for Life, centers on the Miami PD and its elite AMMO team’s attempt to take down Armando Armas, the head of a drug cartel. “Armando is a cold-blooded killer with a vicious, taunting nature,” says the official synopsis. “He is committed to the work of the cartel and is dispatched by his mother to kill Mike Lowery. Paola Nuñez will take on the role of Rita, the tough and funny criminal psychologist who is the newly appointed head of AMMO, and Mike’s former girlfriend … the one who got away.”
