Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer are developing a new sci-fi drama titled The Boroughs for Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The new series will see Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) act as showrunners on the project, with the idea for the series coming from the pair as well. The eight-episode series will be produced by Addiss, Matthews, and the Duffers via their Upside Down Pictures banner.
According to a brief description of the series, The Boroughs will take place in a “seemingly picturesque retirement community in the New Mexico desert” and will revolve around “a group of unlikely heroes who must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have: time.”
“We’ve been fans of Jeff and Will’s writing for a long time, and when they pitched us their idea for The Boroughs, we immediately knew they had something very special on their hands,” the Duffers said in a release announcing the news on Thursday. “While the heroes in The Boroughs have a few more years on them than the kids from Stranger Things, they are a similarly lovable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that is at turns scary, funny, and deeply touching.”
The Boroughs is yet another project the Duffers are working on for Netflix alongside their list of growing works. Besides the upcoming fifth and final season of Stranger Things, the brotherly duo also recently announced a new animated series set in the world of Stranger Things, as well as a stage show and live-action spin-off series based on the hit franchise.
The pair are also working on an adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s The Talisman, as well as a live-action adaptation of the hit anime series Death Note.
