Following up on a slew of teasers about Eli Roth’s upcoming horror slasher Thanksgiving, another teaser emerged as “a new horror legend” makes its way to theaters on November 17.
Roth is no stranger to producing suspense flicks, having released a variety of blood-filled features including Cabin Fever, Hostel Parts I and II, The Green Inferno, Knock Knock, and The House with a Clock in Its Walls. Though some of his films failed to impress viewers and critics alike, the filmmaker had his fair share of classics — and his latest is shaping up to be an addition to his already impressive portfolio.
In the video, uploaded via Sony Pictures’ official X page, Nell Verlaque (Nowhere) can be seen being followed by a weird, mysterious serial killer known as John Carver. You can check out the clip below.
The New Face of Horror
The upcoming film has been Roth’s long-overdue project for over a decade, complete with a fake trailer seen in 2007’s Grindhouse. But although it’s been a long time coming, Roth prefers to pretend that Thanksgiving was a modern reboot of a lost 1980 movie.
In an interview with Total Film, the director explained, “We said, ‘Let’s pretend “Thanksgiving” was a movie from 1980 that was so offensive that every print was destroyed. All the scripts were burned. The director disappeared. The crew members changed their names. One person saved the trailer and uploaded it to the darkest corners of 4chan, and now it’s made it out. So this is a 2023 reboot.’ And once we said that, it freed us up.”
Apart from Verlaque, Thanksgiving stars Addison Rae (He’s All That), Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy), Jalen Thomas Brooks (Rebel), Rick Hoffman (Suits), Milo Manheim (Prom Pact), and Tomaso Sanelli (Star Falls).
“After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious serial killer, known only as ‘John Carver,’ comes to Plymouth, Massachusetts, with the intention of creating a Thanksgiving carving board out of the town’s inhabitants,” the synopsis for Thanksgiving reads.
Thanksgiving will hit theaters on November 17.
