Christophe Gans, who made the first film, directed the third one as well and developed the screenplay with Sandra Vo-Anh and Will Schneider from the Silent Hill 2 video game by Konami. Return to Silent Hill could arrive by early 2024.
In January 2020, Gans revealed during an interview with the French magazine Allocine that he and producer Victor Hadida were developing a script based on the Silent Hill and Fatal Frame series. In June 2022, he elaborated that the upcoming film would be a reboot.
“The script for a new Silent Hill film…is completely independent [of] the two previous films made and…respects the way Silent Hill has evolved,” the director told Jeux Video. “Most of the time, they are standalone stories. Silent Hill is a bit like the Twilight Zone, the Fourth Dimension, a place where anything and everything can happen.”
Filming began in April 2023 in German cities Munich, Penzing, Nuremberg, and Lake Ammer and concluded in July 2023. IMDb reportedly mentioned that the film’s release date was April 26, 2024, but the said date has since been replaced with a blanket 2024 release date prediction. This likely means one of two things – The announcement was incorrect, and the film will be released on some other date, or it was revealed earlier than intended. Either way, especially given that the filming was wrapped in July, it is safe to speculate that Return to Silent Hill will come out in early 2024.
