Song Kang’s Sweet Home 2 Trailer Teases Epic Human-Monster Battle

The much-awaited K-drama Sweet Home 2, starring Song Kang, is right around the corner. After the success and popularity of its first season, a second installment will premiere on Friday, December 1, 2023, streaming exclusively on Netflix. The series returns with an expanded scope, and it is bigger and better than Season 1 if the newly released trailer is anything to go by.

Netflix released the dramatic teaser of Sweet Home 2 on November 10, 2023. The series follows the story of the Green Home survivors and Hyun-Su’s (Song Kang) journey. This time, however, the humans battle against monsters taking over the world and restore humanity. The K-drama is adapted from the webtoon by the same name by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan.

Song Kang and Green Home residents deal with apocalypse in Sweet Home 2 trailer

While Sweet Home Season 1 shows the Green Home apartment run by monsters, the second season is taking it to a larger scale. This time, Hyun-Su and the Green Home residents will face a horrible monster apocalypse, one that promises to destroy all of human civilization. The setting of Season 2 is a dilapidated stadium, with an epic human-monster battle.

The trailer begins with a clock strike, indicating the impending doom. A man asks, “So what are you now? Are you a human? Or a monster?” Humans fighting their inner demons while saving what’s left of humanity is Sweet Home’s recurrent theme. However, only this time, they face the monsters on a much larger scale, and Hyun-Su is the saving grace.

Park Gyu-Young (Yoon Ji-Soo), who essays a key role in Sweet Home 2, says, “We’re not here because of luck or skill. We barely survived through other’s sacrifices. Don’t let them be in vain.” A chained and blood-soaked Song Kang is taken in a cage by a group of people to an isolated room. He asks someone if they can develop a vaccine or an antidote with his help. This presumably will help solve the crisis.

Meanwhile, Tak In-Hwan (Yoo Oh-Seung) orders to shoot all monsters at sight. The trailer provides multiple consequent visuals of monsters taking over the world. While the humans burn some to death, they shoot the remaining ones, all in the hopes to survive. Individuals receive a tattoo stating “Human” on their upper palm and blood spattered all over. The gory visuals give viewers an idea of the extent of danger.

Dr. Lim (Oh Jung-Se) says, “Even if you become a monster, I want to give them hope that they can still make a choice.” This statement highlights the moral compass of an individual – to fight their inner demons and unleash their human side.

By the end of the trailer, Hyun-Su reiterates the message that he is human above everything else. Afterwards he breaks down, and says, “I don’t ever want to forget the fact that I’m human.”

Don’t forget to tune in to Sweet Home 2 on December 1, 2023, on Netflix.
