Varun Dhawan‘s Bawaal sheds light on the complexity of relationships interwoven with moments from World War 2.
Nitesh Tiwari directed the movie. Sajid Nadiadwala and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari produced it under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Earthsky Pictures. Bawaal also stars Janhvi Kapoor as the lead alongside Manoj Pahwa, Mukesh Tiwari, and Prateek Pachori in a supporting ensemble.
The movie revolves around a small-town man, Ajay, who marries a beautiful woman, Nisha, for the sake of his social position. Initially scheduled for a theatrical release, Bawaal had a streaming release on Amazon Prime Video on July 21, 2023.

Bawaal Ending: Do Nisha and Ajay fix their issues?
During Bawaal, Ajay got a reality check and realized that he could not function without Nisha’s help. This was the first time the two felt connected, but the real change in Ajay was visible when they visited Normandy Beach. This was the location where he imagined the horrors of war. He realized how selfishly he was living, whereas the American soldiers sacrificed themselves to save France from Hitler’s army.
On the tour to Anne Frank’s hiding place, Ajay realized what compassion and forgiveness truly were. Seeing the changes in Ajay’s personality, Nisha felt that she was making progress in their relationship. But after she posted a video of them dancing in Paris, Ajay went back to being the man who cared only about his reputation. He felt that his whole plan of making the trip look important would now be seen as a fun getaway.
Does Ajay realize his true feelings for Nisha?
Distance grew between Ajay and Nisha, but eventually, Ajay realized his true feelings for her. The couple visited Auschwitz as their final location. There, Ajay imagined himself as a prisoner being taken away to the concentration camp. He was allowed to bring only a few belongings in his fever dream, and he chose to take his wedding photograph.
He realized he could not live without her, but Nisha was still unsure about their relationship, even after his apology. She agreed to accompany him to Auschwitz, but after imagining the horrors of the place, she fainted and started to have a seizure. However, Ajay didn’t care about his image this time and helped Nisha until she was fine. According to an Auschwitz survivor, every relationship has its Auschwitz, where it seems impossible to overcome the suffering, but it must be resolved to love one another.
Do Nisha and Ajay stay together?
Towards the end of Bawaal, Ajay returned to India as a completely different man. He resigned from his school before they could fire him, as he understood how he was just deceiving everyone. Although he does mention that he taught the kids with all his heart and soul.
MLA Vishwas Raghuvanshi was also present there. He told Ajay that while he was on his way back to India, he had organized a surprise history test in class. He revealed that Ajay’s students had scored unbelievably good marks. This was a result of them seeing Ajay’s videos, which he streamed from Europe. So, his resignation was declined, and Ajay finally felt free of this faux image he had created.
At the end of Bawaal, Ajay seemed to be on the right path. He could finally be an authentic person, the kind that understands his wife’s needs and is also passionate about teaching his students.
