While Samantha was set to make her Hollywood debut with Philip John’s film Chennai Story, it has been confirmed that Shruti Haasan replaced her.
BAFTA Award-winning filmmaker Philip John is directing Chennai Story. The movie is based on the novel The Arrangements of Love by Timeri N Murari. The coming-of-age romantic comedy came out in 2004 and is set against the backdrop of Wales and India.

The makers of Chennai Story officially confirmed that Samantha Ruth Prabhu was roped in to play the leading lady in the film. Moreover, she posed for a picture with Philip John. However, now it has been confirmed that the makers have moved on with Shruti Haasan for the role. Indian film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh also confirmed that Shruti Haasan has bagged the lead role in the movie.
As per Hindustan Times, Shruti Haasan recently stated how elated she is to join the film’s cast. Moreover, she mentioned that the film is more special to her because she hails from Chennai. She said, “Hailing from Chennai, a story showing the diversity and uniqueness of Chennai is so special to me.” The Salaar actress continued, “Collaborating with Phil is something I’m so excited to experience, telling global and rooted stories through international collaboration is what making cinema is all about. I’m all up for Sunitha Tati’s vision of taking a culturally rooted story to an international audience through Chennai Story.”
Shruti Haasan will allegedly play a detective in the movie.
