Where Is Wendy Williams: What Was the Former Talk Show Host Diagnosed With?

The upcoming Lifetime documentary Where is Wendy Williams follows former talk show host Wendy Williams’ battles with ill health and her journey. On February 2, 2024, Lifetime released a trailer for the two-part documentary that will be aired on February 24 and 25, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The documentary seemingly focuses on Wendy Williams’ struggles with health, money, and fame after she was announced about being diagnosed with Graves’ disease.

In 2017, Wendy Williams was dressed as the Statue of Liberty for a Halloween special episode of The Wendy Williams Show. She fainted and passed out on-air while hosting the episode, leading to widespread speculations about her health. Doctors reportedly found out that her blood pressure and heart rate were fine. CNN reported that she also assured the audience that she was just low on electrolytes and nothing else.

In February 2018, Wendy Williams disclosed that she was diagnosed with a condition called Graves’ disease. At that time, her doctor reportedly advised her to take a three-week break from work to focus on her health and recovery. According to NHS, Graves’ disease is an autoimmune condition wherein the immune system triggers the production of excess thyroid hormone. Young or middle-aged women are common victims of this condition. Muscle weakness, hyperactivity, and prolonged tiredness are some primary symptoms of the condition.

In 2021, Wendy Williams announced that she had been making progress with her health. Before that, fans were growing curious about her absence from the 13th season of her talk show. Leah Remini, Sherri Shepherd, Jerry Springer, and Michael Rapaport were among the people who took her place during her absence. They kept the show running until she returned on March 4, 2019, and suggested that her absence was owed to a fractured shoulder.

According to BBC, the former talk show host has openly spoken about her cocaine addiction. She reportedly made conscious efforts to overcome the condition.

She also leads a non-profit organization that focuses on education, rehabilitation, and prevention relating to victims of substance abuse. Williams claimed she would go back to a sober house every night and also had a 24-hour sobriety coach. The coach actively helped her battle her addiction.

In 2022, ABC News reported that Wendy Williams was in a legal battle with Wells Fargo after they froze her accounts for two months. She claimed that this disturbance prevented her from meeting several financial needs, such as employee payrolls and mortgage payments. However, the bank reportedly suspected that Williams was a “victim of undue influence and financial exploitation.”

In an interaction with fans, Williams accused Wells Fargo, her former financial adviser, of denying her access to her money. This was after she allegedly began asking questions about her personal funds.

In 2022, NBC reported that Williams has also been spending time at a wellness facility. This was to focus on and improve her overall health. Although the specific reason behind the treatment wasn’t announced, her team claimed that she was receiving attention and care from some of the best doctors in the world.
