DC fans wonder why “Sell Snyderverse to Netflix” has been trending on Twitter/X. Could DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery sell the rights to SnyderVerse properties to Netflix? Here’s all you need to know about the #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix trend.
Why is ‘Sell Snyderverse to Netflix’ trending on Twitter/X?
#SellSnyderversetoNetflix has been a constant trend on X/Twitter as a result of fans trying to highlight the profitability of the DCEU Snyderverse.
After the massive success of 2018’s Aquaman, DC films underwent a noticeable change in creative direction. However, many of those films ended up being box office flops while Zack Snyder’s Justice League earned positive reviews and got a strong reception on MAX.
So after Zack Snyder found a new home with Netflix, ardent fans of his have continuously raised their voices on X and other social media platforms such as Vero to support his vision for the DCEU.
Back in December 2023, Netflix’s head of film, Scott Stuber, told The Hollywood Reporter that there is a slim chance for Netflix to acquire the rights from DC Studios while Snyder has appeared to drop hints of it on Vero. This has fueled fan speculation further, helping the #SellSnyderversetoNetflix to continue to trend on X.
Many of these fans wish for Snyder to continue his vision involving two more Justice League movies, Ben Affleck’s Batman movie and more on Netflix while DC Studios launches James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU titles theatrically and on MAX. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
Will Warner Bros. sell the Snyderverse to Netflix?
Selling the SnyderVerse to Netflix may not be possible as those films will directly compete with James Gunn’s DCU, who has denied any possibility of it ever happening.
In early 2023, James Gunn called “SellSnyderversetoNetflix” the “wackiest hashtag” on X. According to him, neither Netflix nor Zack Snyder have shown any interest in buying the rights to the old DCEU characters and storylines.
But even if they decide to do so, DC Studios may not want to sell those rights as the SnyderVerse content will directly compete with what Gunn and Safran will produce. Somehow if the SnyderVerse continues, there would be three different versions of Batman and at least two variants of other heroes being featured in new live-action movies simultaneously.
Furthermore, continuing with the next two Justice League movies might be tough in the present day with Ezra Miller and Amber Heard facing backlash strong fan backlash over their past behavior, and other fan-favorite stars like Ben Affleck moving on from their roles. So, despite the #SellSnyderversetoNetflix movement continuing, the reality for supporters is that it may not be possible.
