Nathan Carman was a suspected murderer who died while awaiting trial. NBC Connecticut recently reported that Netflix is working on a documentary about the case he was involved in.
According to CBS News, in 2023, guards at a county jail in Keene, New Hampshire, discovered Nathan Carman’s lifeless body in a cell he solely occupied. One of his attorneys, David Sullivan, stated that their client wrote a note to his lawyers before his demise. Sullivan noted, “We believe that Mr. Carman left us a note that we look forward to receiving in trying to make some sense of a very tragic situation.”
Aside from him, fellow attorney Martin Minnella said, “We had spoken to him yesterday. He was in good spirits. We were meeting with some experts today over Zoom at 12 o’clock. We were prepared to start picking a jury on Oct. 10 and we were confident we were going to win. It’s just a tragedy, a tragedy.”
At the time of his death, Nathan Carman was 29 years old.
What was Nathan Carman accused of?
NBC Connecticut reported that Nathan Carman was accused of allegedly killing his mother, Linda Carman, on the seas off the coast of Rhode Island in 2016 during a fishing trip. Unfortunately, officials were unable to recover her body, and they soon presumed she was dead. Prosecutors reportedly stated that Nathan murdered Linda because he was going to inherit a huge sum of money.
Nathan was also accused of allegedly shooting and killing his grandfather, John Chakalos, in 2013. However, the eight-count indictment did not charge him with murder. Last year, he pleaded not guilty to fraud and first-degree murder in her death, as per CBS News.
After Nathan’s death, his three surviving aunts released a statement that said that they were in deep shock by the incident. They said to have been “deeply saddened” about the news and “its impact on the tragic events surrounding the last several years.”
