Is Huma Qureshi’s Madness Machayenge Getting Cancelled?

Huma Qureshi’s new comedy show Madness Machayenge: India Ko Hasayenge is reportedly on the brink of cancellation. The show was initially launched as a temporary filler during Kapil Sharma’s transition to Netflix. However, since its release, it has struggled to impress audiences, resulting in lower-than-expected TRPs. Madness Machayenge’s first episode was launched on March 9, 2024.

The show’s format is similar to that of Kapil Sharma’s. Eight comedians perform roasts, sketches, gags and spoofs with celebrity guests alongside Huma Qureshi, who is termed the Comedy Champion.

Huma Qureshi’s Madness Machayenge to stop airing due to low TRPs

A source close to the channel’s developments recently revealed the reason behind the show’s probable cancellation. Despite being planned as a short-term replacement with a limited number of episodes, Madness Machayenge might be pulled off the air earlier than scheduled due to its underwhelming performance.

Adding to the woes of the comedy show is a recent controversy involving filmmaker and producer Karan Johar. Johar expressed his displeasure over how he was portrayed in one of the acts on the show. Johar took to Instagram to voice his concerns, stating that the mimicry act showcased him “in exceptionally poor taste.” He emphasized that such portrayal was hurtful, especially from industry peers rather than anonymous online trolls. Following the backlash, the actor responsible for the impersonation has issued an apology to Johar.

The channel is reportedly in discussions about revamping its programming slate. It will introduce a new show featuring a prominent stand-up comedian. This indicates a strategic shift towards more engaging content to fill the void left by Kapil Sharma’s exit.

This move to cancel Madness Machayenge signifies a challenge for television networks as they navigate changing viewer preferences and the increasing competition from streaming platforms. It also highlights the pressures shows face to perform well in terms of TRPs, which continue to be a critical measure of success in the television industry.
