What Happened to Georgie Campbell? Accident Explained

People are wondering what happened to Georgie Campbell, a British equestrian and event rider, after learning that she had an accident at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England. Born Georgie Strang, Cambell had been riding horses since she was a child. One of the most promising equestrians in her country, Campbell participated in over 200 events and emerged victorious six times. Understandably, people are concerned about her and want to know about her accident.

Here is everything that we have discovered about it.

What happened to Georgie Campbell during the competition?

Georgie Campbell fell off a horse and passed away at the Bicton International Horse Trials on Sunday, May 28. She was reportedly 37 years old.

Expressing condolences for the loss of the athlete, British Eventing, the sport’s governing organization in the United Kingdom, released a statement. “It is with deepest regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) suffered a fatal accident whilst competing,” the organization said. “Medical professionals attended immediately following her fall at fence 5b however, unfortunately, she could not be saved,” it added.

The onsite veterinarians examined Campbell’s horse, Global Quest, before it “walked back to the stables.” The veterinarians concluded that the animal was “uninjured,” British Evening informed.

In order to “respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time,” the organization would not share any further details about the incident.

Following the accident, an air ambulance, an operations officer, a double-crewed land ambulance, and a hazardous area response team arrived at the scene, The Guardian reported. The competition was reportedly abandoned.

Campbell began her career as a showing rider before switching to eventing. In 2020, she married Jesse Campbell, an event rider from New Zealand.
