Frasier Season 2 Casts Community Star Yvette Nicole Brown

Frasier Season 2 is adding to its ensemble, as Community star Yvette Nicole Brown is joining the Paramount+ series in a guest-starring role.

According to Variety, Brown will play Monica. Referenced several times in the Frasier reboot already, Monica is the sister of Professor Olivia Finch (Toks Olagundoye). Brown’s character is described as part haughty and part Nancy Drew. She’s brilliant and biting as Olivia’s older sister and has everything that Olivia could want. She never misses a chance to remind Olivia of her good fortune, as well.

Showrunners Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli reacted to Brown joining the series, saying: “We are thrilled to be graced with the comedic gifts of Yvette Nicole Brown. Her work is effervescent, deftly balancing humor and heart. She is just a delight.” The actress is well-known for playing Shirley Bennett on Community. Her other television credits include The Odd Couple, The Mayor, Big Shot, and an Emmy-nominated performance in A Black Lady Sketch Show.

Who else is joining Frasier Season 2?

It’s been confirmed that Amy Sedaris will join Frasier Season 2, portraying Dr. “Doc” Stathos. The character is a municipal therapist. She has a folksy and scattered veneer and she works with the firefighters at Freddy’s firehouse. But in addition to working with Frasier’s son, she’s a big fan of Dr. Crane (Kelsey Grammer) himself from his old talk show days.

It was also recently announced that Greer Grammer, Kelsey Grammer’s real-life daughter, will play the grown-up daughter of Roz Doyle. Named Alice Doyle, the character was first introduced in the original Frasier. She’s now in her twenties and poised to strike up a connection with Frasier’s son Freddy. Peri Gilpin, who plays Roz Doyle, is also confirmed to return in a recurring capacity.

Frasier Season 2, which is currently filming, follows “Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) in the next chapter of his life after he returns to Boston to face new challenges, forge new relationships, and – with hope – finally fulfill an old dream or two,” per the official synopsis.

In addition to Grammer in the titular role, the series stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Frasier’s son; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department; Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Frasier and Freddy’s neighbor; and Anders Keith as David, Frasier’s nephew.

The Frasier reboot comes from writers Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life in Pieces), who executive produce with Kelsey Grammer, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Grammer’s Grammnet NH Productions. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of the Paramount+ market.
