Another Heat 2 update has been given by Michael Mann, who says that the project continues to be in the works.
What did Michael Mann say about Heat 2?
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Mann revealed that he is continuing to work on Heat 2, and is now “deep” into writing the screenplay adaptation of the novel he and Reed Farrel Coleman wrote in 2022.
Mann didn’t mention any potential changes, but did note that he had a desire to begin filming the project either at the end of 2024, or sometime early in 2025. As far as casting rumors go, Mann wouldn’t speculate on anything. When asked about rumors of Adam Driver and Austin Butler being cast in the project, Mann simply said, “I can’t talk about that.”
Rumors have been swirling around the potential Heat 2 cast, with Austin Butler recently commenting on his potential involvement in the sequel to the iconic 1995 film. It’s also been rumored that Adam Driver — who starred in Mann’s last movie, Ferrari — could play in the upcoming film, though his casting has not been confirmed at this time.
Although neither actor has talked about the project specifically, Butler did recently praise Mann and the original Heat, which he says has some of the greatest performances ever in it.
“As an actor . . . it’s got some of the greatest performances,” said Butler of the original movie. “Just that diner scene alone between De Niro and Pacino is legendary. The attention to detail of Michael Mann and the desire for complete authenticity is inspiring. Yeah, I think that’s a movie that’s inspired a lot of us actors, for sure.”
