Jack Quaid Reveals He Auditioned for Superman Role in James Gunn’s DCU Movie

Jack Quaid already plays Superman in the animated series My Adventures With Superman, but the The Boys actor recently revealed that he tried to play the actual live-action hero as well.

Speaking in a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Quaid revealed that he, along with others, auditioned for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, which is set to usher in the DC Universe.

“I think everyone did,'” Quaid said on his audition. “If you fit a bill…it’s like just one of those things. I didn’t get very far at all. I put myself on tape, and it went nowhere, and that’s fine.”

Quaid also praised the casting of David Corenswet, who will play Superman in the upcoming film. The actor noted that he has a small relationship with him and totally understands why he was chosen.

“[It’s] totally cool, specifically because I actually know David Cornswet a little bit; we did a pilot years ago that never went anywhere,” said Quaid. “But he’s one of those people you meet, and you go, ‘Oh, yeah, whenever they need another [Superman], it’s probably going to be [him]. That guy is Superman!”

Who is in Superman?

The titular role of Superman is played by David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician), while Lois Lane will be played by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan. They’re joined by Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela De Faría, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and more. The film is set to release on July 11, 2025.

“Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
