American Monster on ID: Where Is Christy Blankenship’s Killer Kevin Blankenship Now?

Investigation Discovery’s true-crime series American Monster will examine the murder of Christy Blankenship that took place in August 2010. The episode, titled “Till Death Do Us Part,” plans to reveal details about the untimely death of the Oregon native and what happened afterward. It would also give an in-depth perspective of how authorities solved the case and apprehended her husband, Kevin Blankenship, for the murder. The episode will air on the network on Sunday, July 28, at 9 p.m. ET.

The episode’s synopsis reads, “Christy Blankenship is stolen from her family on what should be a joyous day. Police find her dead at home, with a gunshot wound to her head; her husband insists it’s a terrible accident. Only that morning he had vowed til’ death do us part.”

Per The Columbian, after police charged him in the murder case of Christy Blankenship, Kevin Blankenship told the investigators that he accidentally shot his wife while cleaning the rifle. Although he initially pleaded not guilty, he later pleaded guilty to the murder charge in January 2011 and received 25 years in prison. According to Oregon’s Department of Corrections, he is serving his sentence at the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in Pendleton, Oregon.

Christy Blankenship’s killer: Where is Kevin Blankenship now?

According to The Columbian, Kevin Blankenship pleaded guilty to the charge after his brother agreed to testify against him. Kevin allegedly called his brother after the incident to confess he shot Christy because she was going to divorce him. After he pleaded guilty, the judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison for Christy Blankenship’s slaying. 

During a pre-trial hearing in September 2010, Kevin Blankenship’s attorney said his client suffered from delusions and was unable to assist in the case. However, after the evaluation, the court found him capable of assisting with the case. He is currently incarcerated at the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution.

American Monster will feature the episode on Christy Blankenship’s murder on July 28.
