Skeleton Crew Timeline: When Is the Star Wars Series Set?

Ever since Star Wars: Skeleton Crew hit Disney Plus, fans have had many important questions about the series, most notably its timeline. This series follows four kids who set out to uncover a mystery in their home planet that leads them to an adventure, spanning the galaxy. In this adventure, the kids meet unlikely allies and enemies.

So when is Skeleton Crew set in the overall Star Wars timeline? Here is your question answered.

When is Skeleton Crew set in the Star Wars timeline?

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place following the fall of the Galactic Empire and during the New Republic era, meaning sometime after 4 ABY (After Battle of Yavin), the year when the Empire is defeated as chronicled in Return of the Jedi and during 5-34 ABY, which is during the New Republic era, and when shows like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka take place.

Jon Watts confirmed this in an interview with TechRadar, wherein he mentioned that he placed the series after the Empire’s fall as he believed it was both “the best” and “the worst” time for “kids to get lost in the galaxy” and also because no one could rescue them if they fell into trouble. However, he stressed that he had kept the timeline “a little bit flexible,” as it revolved around the kids’ ages and that they were still figuring out its “exact” placement.

“Yeah, it’s like we’ve thrown a dart but it’s not quite landed on the board yet,” added co-creator Christopher Ford. “So yeah, there’ll be an answer one day and it’ll be an exact date.” Empire Magazine has also confirmed in a recent issue that the new Star Wars series takes place “concurrently with The Mandalorian and Ahsoka” (via Screen Rant).

Skeleton Crew’s principal cast comprises Jude Law, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kritter, Robert Timothy Smith, and several others. So far, the show has received largely positive reviews from critics.
