The “Superman” trend on TikTok has recently gained attention for its dangerous and risky behavior, leading to a growing concern among health authorities and parents. This trend encourages children to perform dangerous stunts for social media content and has led to a rise in injuries.
Now, many are curious to know what is the ‘Superman’ trend on TikTok and why is it dangerous. Here are more details.
What is the ‘Superman’ trend on TikTok?
A dangerous new trend on TikTok, known as the “Superman challenge,” has left numerous children injured across the world. It has prompted calls for a ban on the social media platform. The challenge involves a group of people throwing a child into the air, making them appear to be flying like a superhero. In North Macedonia alone, at least 17 children aged between 10 and 17 were hospitalized last week. The injuries include broken bones and bruises, resulting from attempts to replicate the stunt. Reports of similar incidents have also surfaced in other countries. This includes Romania and Israel, where dozens of children have required medical attention due to the challenge.
In response to the growing concern, the Liberal-Democratic Party in North Macedonia has called for the immediate removal of violent and self-destructive content from social media. They argued that such content reaches vulnerable young users and poses a significant risk to children. The party also criticized the lack of effective regulation on platforms like TikTok. Vesna Janevska, Education Minister of North Macedonia, suggested that students should focus on education rather than TikTok trends. However, she noted that banning phones in schools wouldn’t solve the problem.
To address this, TikTok has implemented a warning message on searches for the “Superman” challenge, alerting users that the content may not be appropriate for some people. Despite this, concerns persist that more needs to be done to prevent such dangerous challenges from spreading.
