Ryan Reynolds Says Andrew Garfield Stole the Show in Spider-Man: No Way Home

Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield recently participated in a special joint interview and had much to say about one another. In particular, they talked about each other’s hit films of 2024, including Deadpool & Wolverine and We Live in Time. However, Reynolds also took a moment to appreciate what Andrew Garfield did in Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland.

Andrew Garfield made Ryan Reynolds ‘burst into tears’ in Spider-Man: No Way Home

No Way Home saw Andrew Garfield reprising his role as the Web-Slinger after his two Amazing Spider-Man Outings in the early 2010s. His return left many fans happy and wanting more.

While some demanded The Amazing Spider-Man 3, others wished to see Garfield take on Venom in The Last Dance. But in Variety’s Actors on Actors special, Reynolds acknowledged his performance in Now Way Home and said that the latter made him ‘burst into tears.’

Here’s the Deadpool actor’s comment, which can be seen around the 38:00 mark in the above video:

“I love how you did this in Spider-Man: No Way Home: You’re weaving DNA strands of a cultural conversation along with the narrative of the movie. You guys did it in such a way that I burst into tears.”

After talking about his own future in the MCU as Deadpool, Reynolds further claimed that Garfield ‘sort of’ stole Spider-Man: No Way Home from Tom Holland. He added:

“In all seriousness, you did sort of steal the movie. And if I were Tom, I’d be angry.”

Tom Holland is confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man 4. But Andrew Garfield’s future as Spider-Man isn’t set in stone. While fans speculate a comeback from him in Avengers: Secret Wars, rumors have suggested that he could return as early as Spider-Man 4, with the latter also being another multiversal event. However, the multiversal aspect of Spider-Man 4 isn’t confirmed yet.

The film hits theaters on July 24, 2026.
