After Amanda Waller’s Task Force X was exposed, Creature Commandos brought in a new team of monsters led by Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. But as the series progresses, fans have begun to question whether he is a regular human similar to his son, or a metahuman in the DC Universe.
Is Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. a metahuman in Creature Commandos?
Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. is not a metahuman in Creature Commandos. Many think he could be an enhanced individual with super strength and durability because of the following three reasons:
- He leads a Task Force of Monsters and can hold his own against super-powered beings like Doctor Phosphorus.
- Frank Grillo’s casting didn’t make sense to many as he is only 14 years older than Joel Kinnaman, who played his son, Rick Flag Jr. in The Suicide Squad.
- Having a son who died in his early 40s makes fans think that Flag Sr. ought to be very old. But he is extremely agile and strong for someone his age. Furthermore, Grillo is likely to make him look much younger sporting black hair in both Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.
So, one could theorize that these feats might only make sense if Rick Flag Sr. is an enhanced metahuman. That’s how he would be able to stay in peak physical shape, go toe to toe with someone like Doctor Phosphorus, and look fairly young for someone who is supposed to be the father of Joel Kinnaman’s character in the Suicide Squad movies.
But that isn’t the case at all. In Episode 1, Daddy Flag revealed that his son died two years ago, which places Creature Commandos sometime in 2023 or early 2024. He also revealed that he was just 18 when Jr. was born. Since DC Universe fandom lists Jr.’s birth date as Nov 25, 1979, and date of death as Aug 17, 2021, he was almost 42 years old when Peacemaker killed him.
This means Rick Flag Sr. was 60 when his son died and around 62 in Creature Commandos. Considering Frank Grillo himself is 59 and looks the part, his character makes sense within the continuity of the universe. Hence, it is most likely that Daddy Flag is not a metahuman in the DC Universe.
What are Rick Flag Sr.’s abilities in Creature Commandos?
Being a very experienced general, Flag Sr. possesses great leadership qualities and tactical knowledge. To go along with that, he is a skilled hand-to-hand fighter and an expert with firearms. It’s his experience and training that allows him to lead Task Force M and take on monsters and enhanced individuals.
