Fans were shocked to see a Cillian Murphy-looking zombie in the recently released 28 Years Later trailer, but a man has come forward claiming the zombie is not actually Murphy.
Who is the zombie that looks like Cillian Murphy?
Speaking to The Guardian, British art dealer Angus Neill said that it was actually him playing the role of the emaciated zombie that briefly appears in the trailer and not Murphy, who starred in the original 28 Days Later in 2002.
“Danny told me he’d always had me in mind for the role,” said Neill. “So we met up, hit it off, and I agreed to take part. On set he has an extraordinary ability to hypnotise you, and working with him on the film was a very, very intense experience.”
Fans were quick to think the zombie was Murphy’s character Jim from 28 Days Later due to the striking similarity. Despite the zombie not being Murphy, the actor has stated in the past that he would be open to returning to the franchise, and rumors have been circulated that he will be back in some form.
28 Years Later stars Jodie Comer (The Bikeriders), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Edvin Ryding (Young Royals). Murphy may also reprise his role as Jim from 28 Days Later in the movie, though it’s unclear how large of a role the character will have.
Boyle’s forthcoming sequel is the first film in a new trilogy. It was shot back-to-back with the second film in the series, which is directed by Candyman and The Marvels’ Nia DaCosta. A release date for that movie has not yet been announced.
28 Years Later will be released in United States theaters on June 20, 2025, by Sony Pictures.
