New Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Reimagined Movie In the Works from Amazon

A new Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie is in the works.

Released in 1968, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a beloved musical fantasy film directed by Ken Hughs. It stars Dick Van Dyke as Caractacus Potts, Sally Ann Howes as Truly Scrumptious, and more.

Per Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios is working with Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson’s Eon Productions to develop a new, reimagined version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

What do we know about the new Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie?

Development on the new Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie is said to be in “early stages,” as Eon and Amazon are currently meeting with writers and directors who are potentially interested in helming the project.

Plot details remain under wraps at this time. It is being developed with a theatrical release “in mind,” though no release date or window has been announced at this time.

The original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is an adaptation of Ian Fleming’s 1964 children’s novel Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car. Hughes co-wrote the screenplay for the movie alongside Roald Dahl. It also starred Lionel Jeffries, Gert Fröbe, Anna Quayle, Benny Hill, and James Robertson Justice.

The synopsis for the 1968 movie reads, “While truant from school, young siblings Jeremy and Jemima meet the beautiful Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), who falls for their widowed father, Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke), and his various oddball inventions, including the family’s noisy rebuilt car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. One day at the beach, Caractacus tells Truly and the children a fanciful fable about the villainous Baron Bomburst (Gert Frobe) and his evil designs on the Potts family car.”

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is currently streaming on The Roku Channel. It is also available to buy or rent on digital services such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and more.
