WWE superstar Becky Lynch has joined the cast of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The former WWE Women’s World Champion, who has been absent from WWE programming for more than six months, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce her latest venture.
Paramount+’s new Star Trek series is a coming-of-age tale centering on a team of young cadets. Lynch’s role hasn’t been revealed yet, but she will be joining Sandro Rosta, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner, with Academy Award winner Holly Hunter joining the cast as “the captain and chancellor.”
What did Becky Lynch say about joining the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy cast?
“You know when you’ve already been champion of the world, there’s really only one place to go next, and that’s to the stars. And I am so excited to share with all of you that I am joining Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as part of the bridge crew,” said Lynch.
She continued, “This has been the most amazing experience, acting alongside just a spectacular cast and crew, and I cannot wait for all of you to check it out when it comes out on Paramount Plus.”
She concluded the video with the iconic Vulcan salute, saying, “And hey, live long and prosper.”
While no premiere date has been set yet for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, it was previously announced that the series has been renewed for Season 2. Some familiar Star Trek faces will also return to reprise their roles, including Tig Notaro (Star Trek: Discovery), Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Prodigy), Oded Fehr (Star Trek: Discovery), and Mary Wiseman (Star Trek: Discovery). Paul Giamatti and Gina Yashere will also appear in the series as recurring guest stars.
Per the official synopsis, the upcoming series will follow “the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. The series will introduce viewers to this young group of cadets as they come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”
