What Happened to Elijah Blue Allman? Cher’s Son Hospitalization Reports Explained

Wondering what’s going on with Cher’s son Elijah Blue Allman and why he’s back in the news? Recent reports point to a serious medical emergency that has raised fresh concerns about his ongoing personal challenges.

Here’s what we know about the incident, his current status, and how those close to him are responding.

What happened to Cher’s son Elijah Blue Allman?

Emergency responders hospitalized Cher’s son Elijah Blue Allman on Saturday morning, June 15, 2025, after a reported drug overdose in Joshua Tree, California.

According to TMZ, emergency responders rushed Allman to a nearby medical center, where he remains under care. His condition is stable, and sources described him as “very lucky to have survived.”

Elijah Blue, 48, is the son of Cher and the late Gregg Allman. He has publicly addressed his long-term struggles with substance abuse, revealing in a 2014 interview that he began using drugs at the age of 11. In the interview, he admitted, “I did have some close calls and some moments of really feeling at the edge of mortality,” noting that he turned to heroin and opiates during a difficult period in his life (via US Weekly).

In recent months, photographers captured Elijah looking disoriented outside the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. He wore a torn T-shirt and looked sweaty and disheveled. Just weeks before his hospitalization, he began going through a divorce from his estranged wife Marieangela King, who filed for divorce in April 2025. Court documents show she requested exclusive use of their home and vehicle.

Cher filed for a temporary conservatorship over Elijah in 2023, citing “severe mental health and substance abuse issues” (via Page Six). The filing stated that distributing funds directly to him would result in their immediate use for drugs. However, she withdrew the conservatorship request in September 2024.

Cher is currently supporting her son, according to sources who told TMZ, “Cher’s only concern right now is for her son’s well-being, and she’s doing everything she can to get him the help he needs.” Neither Cher nor her representatives have issued a public statement.
