The film is based on Kim Barker’s wartime memoir, which tells of Barker’s arrival as a fish out of water in Kabul, filing stories about militants, being a woman in wartime Iraq and Pakistan, dealing with boredom interspersed with dashes of violence, and the promiscuous war-correspondent culture.
The trade adds that Freeman will play Fey’s unexpected love interest, a dedicated Scottish photojournalist. Robbie is a competing and hard-core on-air reporter.
Freeman can next be seen in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, opening in theaters on December 17.
