On Sunday, Vanity Fair revealed that photographer Annie Leibovitz too photos on the set of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens and revealed the cover to the new issue, which features John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Peter Mayhew (a.k.a. Chewbacca), new droid BB8 and Harrison Ford. Now, the magazine has also revealed a behind-the-scenes video featuring Leibovitz on the set and more goodies.
Abrams revealed to the magazine that he thought about killing off Jar Jar Binks. “I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks’s bones in the desert there. I’m serious! Only three people will notice, but they’ll love it.”
Vanity Fair saw new footage from the film as well, including a scene in which a Jawa-like creature popped out of the desert. Abrams called it “a classic, old-school seesaw puppet. We just buried it in the sand, and Neal Scanlan, the creature guy, pushed down on one side and the thing came up on the other side. It’s so old-school and crazy. We could improve this thing, but at some point do we lose the wonderful preposterousness?”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and features a new generation of swashbuckling heroes and shadowy villains, as well as the return of fan-favorite smugglers, princesses, and Jedi.
Starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou, the J.J. Abrams-directed film will debut in theaters on December 18, 2015.
