Currently sitting at a 95% positive ranking over at Rotten Tomatoes, writer and director Paul Feig’s new action-comedy Spy is in theaters now and, on the heels of our previous interview with the film’s cast, ComingSoon.net is bringing you an extended conversation with Feig himself.
Feig began to find a serious fanbase with his beloved (but short-lived) NBC series “Freaks and Geeks” (which helped launched the careers of stars like Seth Rogen, James Franco and Linda Cardellini). After going to direct episodes of popular series like “The Office” and “Arrested Development,” Feig had a huge big screen hit with 2011’s Bridesmaids, which went on to gross more $288 million worldwide and scored two Academy Award nominations. Among those was a Best Supporting Actress nod to Melissa McCarthy, who went on to reteam with Feig for 2013’s The Heat. Now they’re back together again for their latest adventure, which sees McCarthy as Susan Cooper, a CIA Agent stuck working behind a desk. One day, that all changes, however, when a twist of fate pushes Cooper into the action, giving her the chance to (hopefully) save the world!
In this interview, Feig talks about his process as a director and how his films are largely built in post-production. He also explains his decision to direct 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Play-Doh movie and a whole lot more. Check it all out in the player below!
Spy also stars Rose Byrne, Jason Statham, Jude Law, Miranda Hart, Peter Serafinowicz, Allison Janney, Bobby Cannavale and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
We also brought you some interviews from the film earlier this year when Spy premiered at SXSW. Check out a video conversation with Fieg, Statham and Cannavale, an extended interview with Feig (which includes a Ghostbusters update) or, if you just want to check out more of what the film has to offer, watch five different Spy clips.
