Wesley Snipes is back as the day-walking vampire, Blade, in the sequel to the 1998 hit Blade.
In this follow-up Blade joins forces with his nemesis, the vampire, to hunt down a new breed of blood-sucker represented by the leader of the clan in Nomak (Goss). This new breed is out to transform the current vampires walking the Earth and turn them in to what he has become. Almost immune to every kind of weapon the only apparent way to kill this devil is sunlight.
You may be asking yourself why Blade would now join the vampires after he spent two hours four years ago trying to kill them all. Well, as it was so shrewdly brought to Blade’s attention, once this new breed of vampire has wiped out the current vampire race they will have no choice but to feed on the blood of human’s for survival. This being Blade’s only reason for killing vampires, he finds eradication of the human race unacceptable and joins forces, introducing the vampires to a whole slew of cool gadgets and trinquets for combating the new beasts.
After my disappointment with the original Blade this one was a breath of fresh air, despite the horrible acting by Blade’s counterpart played by Norman Reedus, who has an affliction for calling Wesley’s character “B” as opposed to Blade, to represent the cool factor. The fight scenes at the end of the movie and throughout are extremely entertaining and even the CGI is almost believable.
Overall, Blade II accomplishes the goal of grabbing your interest and holding it just long enough for the movie to end, but I am sure I will watch again.
