1.) While there has been some movement lately on Fox’s Daredevil reboot of late, with Joe Carnahan (The A-Team, The Grey) entering talks to direct, it’s also possible the studio could allow the property to fall back into the hands of Marvel (thus, Disney). If the studio doesn’t put something into production soon, the blind crime fighter would revert back to Disney.
There were some rumors of the two studios trading properties to work out a deal to keep Daredevil with Fox, with Galactus from the Fantastic Four universe coming into play, but those have since been denied and didn’t even make much sense given the Fantastic Four reboot currently has a lot more traction than Daredevil with Chronicle helmer Josh Trank attached to direct. The more likely scenario is that the two studios co-finance the film. [Deadline]
2.) Robert Zemeckis is developing Taking Flight: The Hunt for a Young Outlaw, the story of the teenaged Barefoot Bandit, with the potential to direct the project. Dustin Lance Black (Milk) is writing the screenplay, which would tell the true story of Colton Harris-Moore, who earned his nickname after committing 100 thefts of bikes, cars, boats and even small aircrafts, many of which were done without shoes. David Gordon Green was originally set to direct, but he opted to focus on his Suspiria remake instead. [THR]
3.) Bruce Dern and Will Forte are nearing deals to star in Nebraska, Alexander Payne‘s follow-up to The Descendents. The black and white road movie would follow a crusty alcoholic dad (Dern), who talks his underachieving son (Forte) into driving him to claim his fortune after he wins a sweepstakes. Payne initially courted Gene Hackman for the Dern role, but he couldn’t talk him out of retirement. [Deadline]
4.) Sacha Baron Cohen and Cedar Rapids writer Phil Johnston have sold a pitch for a Bond-like spy spoof to Paramount. The film would follow a spy forced to go on the run with his long-lost brother, a moronic soccer hooligan. Baron Cohen would likely play the soccer fan. [Variety]
5.) Sony has moved Roland Emmerich‘s White House Down from November 1, 2013 to June 28, 2013 in an effort to beat Antoine Fuqua‘s similarly themed Olympus Has Fallen to the punch. The two films have been described as “Die Hard in the White House,” though Emmerich’s version stars Channing Tatum, so it has a clear advantage in terms of box-office prospects. It also features Jamie Foxx, while Olympus Has Fallen is led by Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart. [Deadline]
BONUS: Mickey Rourke is in talks to reprise his role of Marv in Sin City 2, as well as join Gerard Butler in Motor City, the revenge flick from director Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli). [Deadline]
