1.) With Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master finally just around the corner the Internet won’t rest until it knows what’s next, because the only thing better than a new movie is the one that hasn’t yet been made. To that point Anderson, speaking with Screen Daily, referenced a property he’s been attached to for some time, Thomas Pynchon‘s novel “[amazon asin=”0143117564″ text=”Inherent Vice”]” with Robert Downey Jr. eying the role of 1960s stoner P.I. Larry “Doc” Sportello who is hired by an ex-girlfriend to investigate the disappearance of her wealthy lover.
Anderson told Screen, “I’m hoping we can get ‘Inherent Vice’ going soon… It’s such a different piece, though. It’s nice to have a collaborator, as it were, through working on the book.”
He referenced the book in an interview with Empire also, adding, “[It’s] like a Cheech and Chong movie, [adapting it is] just gonna be great and, hopefully, fun… I’d like to have a few years of being more productive. But we’ll see… There’s so much. But it’s fun too, be because they’re his words, and… it’s like taking your dad’s car for a ride, y’know?” [Screen Daily]
2.) Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson (one of the Weasley twins from the Harry Potter franchise) are attached to star in a new UK comedy titled Frank for director Lenny Abrahamson. In the film Gleeson will play an aspiring musician who finds himself in over his head when he joins an eccentric rock band led by Fassbender. [Variety]
3.) Nake Parker stars in the upcoming Arbitrage and even more recently starred in Spike Lee‘s Red Hook Summer, and it appears he’s prepared to work with Lee again as he is now in negotiations to star in Lee’s Oldboy remake.
The film will star Josh Brolin as a man who is kidnapped and imprisoned for more than a decade for unknown reasons and Parker is in talks to play a doctor who works with co-star, Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene). Sharlto Copley (District 9) also stars with Samuel L. Jackson expected to take on a small but key role as the head of the motel where Brolin has been held hostage. [Variety]
4.) Previously in negotiations, and now confirmed, Jim Carrey will star in Kick-Ass 2, playing the role of The Colonel in the Jeff Wadlow-directed sequel, which is now being referred to as Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall. The Colonel is described as a guy who helps galvanize the team of misfit super heroes assembled to fight evil. The film is set to hit theaters on June 28, 2013. [Deadline]
5.) Lars von Trier has added one more to the cast of his upcoming sexually explicit cinematic adventure Nymphomaniac. This time it’s Udo Kier who starred in Melancholia for the director. Kier offered up an impressive quote for Dread Central saying, “The last one was Melancholia, and I’m off now to Germany to play a part in Nymphomania with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Nicole Kidman and the nice boy from the Transformers; he is playing in it. So that is my next step.” You have to love how he has the name of the film wrong and refers to Shia LaBeouf as “the nice boy from the Transformers.” [Dread Central]
