It’s going to be an interesting weekend as two films have a clear opportunity at the #1 spot. Laremy went with Turbo for #1 with his predictions and the average reader predictions have The Conjuring at #1, but only by a difference of $500,000 over Turbo. Will it end up being that close?
There seems to be a consensus that Red 2 and R.I.P.D. will pull in at #3 and #4, though I’m more inclined to agree with the reader averages over Laremy’s predictions and go a little lower on both, especially R.I.P.D. as you can pretty much tell even Universal doesn’t quite care if you go and see it.
I also won’t be surprised if R.I.P.D. slips to fifth place as Despicable Me 2 still stands to make a lot of money and it could also very easily climb to third.
The film I’m most curious about is Pacific Rim, it could slip all the way to seventh and perhaps, by next weekend, be out of the top ten entirely.
Otherwise, we’ve arrived at the fifth weekend where your box office predictions have been collected and that means come Monday afternoon the second leaderboard will go live once the actuals are reported.
On top of being ranked by point totals, a second leaderboard will rank your predictions based on their accuracy percentages. I spent most of yesterday putting the new leaderboard page together and testing the current results and it’s quite interesting to see the difference between the points leaderboard and the accuracy leaderboard. I think by now having both we have a much better way of giving credit where credit is due and I think you’re going to really like it.
