I had no real interest in Spike Jonze‘s Her about five minutes before writing up this post. So, I broke my personal rule and watched this first trailer and I can now say that I am now immensely curious to see how this unconventional romantic comedy plays out.
Starring Joaquin Phoenix as Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet “Samantha,” a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other.
The film co-stars Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, Chris Pratt and Scarlett Johansson as the voice of “Samantha”.
Watching the trailer I found myself immediately captivated and it’s clear who ever cut this thing together knew the power of the double-edged “How would you touch me?” statement as it really hits hard before bringing the whole thing home.
Warner Bros. will release Her on November 20 and while I previously didn’t care if it landed in Toronto I’m now really wishing it was… Oh well, something to look forward to… Watch the trailer below.
