Shortly after it was announced that Paramount Pictures had moved Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island from October 2nd to February 19th, two other studios quickly moved their films up a week from October 9th to the 2nd.
Fox Searchlight Pictures moved up the Drew Barrymore comedy Whip It and Columbia Pictures moved up Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland. The two films now face each other on the new date as well as DisneyPixar’s Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3-D combo and a limited release of the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man.
The changes leaves Universal comedy Couples Retreat by itself as the only wide release on October 9th at the moment.
In other release date news, Warner Bros. Pictures has set a December 17, 2010 release for the Yogi Bear movie and Wes Anderson’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox was moved back a week-and-a-half to November 25th. Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air is also eyeing a December 4 release.
