2015 Golden Globe Nominations Announced: 'Birdman' Leads the Field with 7 Nominations

This morning, the 2015 Golden Globe Award nominations were announced by Kate Beckinsale, Jeremy Piven, Peter Krause and Paula Patton in 25 categories and like yesterday’s Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, it’s Birdman leading the pack with seven total nominations.

Boyhood and The Imitation Game follow with five each and it’s Gone Girl, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Selma and The Theory of Everything finishing with four nominations each.

The first notable nominations are those for Selma after being snubbed yesterday by the Screen Actors Guild in all categories. Director Ava DuVernay scored a nomination while star David Oyelowo, playing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was also nominated for Best Actor in a Drama.

The Grand Budapest Hotel also continues on a nice little run, perhaps largely thanks to the Globes nominating for categories in drama and comedy/musical, but who’s complaining? Along with a nomination for Best Comedy/Musical, Wes Anderson scored a nomination for directing and for his screenplay while Ralph Fiennes enjoys a much-deserved Best Actor nom in a Comedy nomination.

Jennifer Aniston gets her second major nomination in a row for her performance in Cake, which continues to boost her Oscar nomination chances and the same goes for Robert Duvall (The Judge), whose nomination yesterday may have come as a small surprise, but today it’s already starting to look like a habit.

Finally, it’s beginning to look more and more like Unbroken may disappear from the field entirely. If the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) isn’t nominating Angelina Jolie, and remember all the love they gave her for The Tourist, then it isn’t a good sign.

The 2015 Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live at 5:00-8:00 p.m. (PST)/8:00-11:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, January 11, 2015. The festivities will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and just like last year we will be here with a live blog and winners as always.
