‘People, Places, Things’ Starring Jemaine Clement Looks Excellent, Watch the Trailer Now

Typically commercials make me mad, but the DirecTV commercials featuring model Hannah Davis and Jemaine Clement as a talking horse I actually enjoy and not because of Davis, though I’m not complaining about her involvement, but because of Clement as the horse. I will admit, however, I didn’t actually remember they were DirecTV commercials (I thought they were for Geico), so as much as I find them funny I guess they aren’t really all that effective. Go figure.

I only mention this because as funny as I find Clement, I haven’t actually seen a lot of his work. I’m not at all familiar with “Flight of the Conchords”, never saw Eagle vs. Shark and, well, other than Men in Black 3 and hearing his voice as one of the Despicable Me minions (though I only learned that today from IMDb), I guess I’ve only caught him in passing and in YouTube videos. Enter People, Places, Things, an upcoming comedy starring Clement as a newly single graphic novelist named Henry as he attempts to balancing parenting his young twin daughters and a classroom full of students while exploring and navigating the rich complexities of new love and letting go of the woman who left him.

It was an exchange between Clement and Jessica Williams (“The Daily Show”) had me absolutely rolling and caused me to stop watching and rush to post this trailer immediately. It goes like this:

Kat: Mr Henry, are you okay.

Henry: Yeah, I’m fine. I’m just having a [beat] bad life. It’ll be over eventually.

I actually laughed out loud at that, hit stop and began writing and oddly enough it was Williams’ name that caused me to watch the trailer, interested in seeing what she was working on outside of “The Daily Show” where I think she’s a gold mine of comedic talent. Wonderfully enough, this movie looks more than just hilarious, it looks like it’s also a great piece of comedic drama.

People, Places, Things was written and directed by James C. Strouse (The Winning Season) and co-stars another comedic star in Regina Hall along with Stephanie Allynne, Michael Chernus, Aundrea Gadsby and Gia Gadsby. Alchemy will be releasing it on August 14, watch the trailer below.
