NYFCO a.k.a. the New York Film Critics Online, of which ComingSoon.net’s Edward Douglas is a member, voted for their annual awards at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center and James Cameron’s sci-fi fantasy epic Avatar came out on top by receiving the award for Best Picture, while Cameron’s ex Kathryn Bigelow took the award for Best Direction for her movie The Hurt Locker.
Quentin Tarantino’s WWII film Inglourious Basterds claimed the most awards, winning for Tarantino’s screenplay, Robert Richardson’s cinematography and two awards for German actor Christoph Waltz.
Other acting awards went to Jeff Bridges’ performance in Scott Cooper’s Crazy Heart (which also received an award for its musical score), Meryl Streep’s role as Julia Child in Julie & Julia and Mo’Nique for her performance in Lee Daniels’ Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire.
